Upgrade from IPB 3.4.8 to IPB 4.3.6

Question

Hi All,

I am looking to upgrade from 3.4.8 to 4.3.6, I have backed up the Database and the files, is there anything else you would recommend to do before the upgrade?

Also, has anyone actually managed to successfully do this upgrade?

Thanks

While on the support team, I've dealt with support requests with users who have done this and have had issues. If you'd like to have a successful upgrade from 3.4 to 4.3, I'd do this:

  • Upgrade from 3.4.x to 4.0 first.
  • Upgrade from 4.0 to 4.3.6.

4.0 is a more stable release for being able to upgrade from 3.4.

Here is a guide to upgrade correctly:

Make sure new database uses same character set as old one.

Backup all the files from server and backup database, and try to upgrade it. If something goes wrong, you can always post here for help, or simply just revert everything you did.

Download the latest release of the engine

Fill all the files from the archive to the root of your forum with the replacement.

After all the files are uploaded to your forum, click on the link.
